Q&A: What would happen if a solution of iodine was added to unsaturated oil in ethanol?

What would happen if a solution of iodine was added to unsaturated oil in ethanol?
Its for chemistry homework, if possible please relate the answer to being in the same group on the periodic table as bromine! Thanks for any help!

Suggestion by Gervald F
The colour of the iodine would disappear (purple to colourless). Look up electrophilic addition of halogens to alkenes.

Why is the ability to solve problems important in chemistry?
Honors Chemistry homework question…please help:

Why is the ability to solve problems important in the study of chemistry? Why is that that the METHOD used to attack a problem is as important as the answer to the problem itself?

Suggestion by Awesome Sauce
Without an organized game plan to go about attacking a problem, or the scientific method, you’ll be inevitably spinning your wheels, going nowhere.
